Most Indian cricket lovers are aware of Ranji Trophy. It is a domestic first-class cricket tournament organized by the Board of control from Cricket in India. The tournament took place in 1934-35 for the first time and has been organized yearly since then. However, the national team’s many talented star players arose from this tournament. Last year in 2021-22, Paytm sponsored the contest, and we have seen Madhya Pradesh cricket team win the championship.
Thus, cricket fans expect better and more exciting matches in the upcoming season. Ranji Trophy 2022-23 has already got its new schedule. Here we will discuss all the updated schedules introduced by BCCI.
Ranji Trophy 2022-23:
The tournament arrived on 13th December 2022 with great excitement and expectations. The final match is supposed to be organized on 16th February 2023. In the last season, Madhya Pradesh bet Mumbai by six wickets and snatch the championship title. Mumbai is the most successful cricket in the Ranji trophy, as they previously had 41 Ranji titles. So, it was not an easy match for Madhya Pradesh.
Format and groups:
A total of 39 teams have confirmed participation in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. All the teams will be divided into five groups. There will be four Elite groups, with eight teams in each. The Plate group, meanwhile, comprises 6 teams. After the shorter round-robin stage, all the teams will play their matches in both home and away formats in the Ranji trophy 2022-23. In the group stage, each side part of an Elite group will play 7 matches, with those in the Plate group playing 5.
The first match was scheduled between Himachal Pradesh and Haryana on 13th December 2022 at Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, Lahli. And the last match before the knock-outs is supposed to be on 17th January between Saurashtra and Andhra Pradesh at Rajkot. Overall, 101 games are scheduled, excluding the knock-outs.

The selection process for the quarter-final round of the Ranji trophy 2022-23 remains the same as BCCI guided that the team that finishes first in each Elite group will shift to the list of the quarter-final. The parties with the second place will be ranked between 5th to 8th based on the points achieved, the number of wins, and NRR if required. The team that finishes in eighth place will face the winner of the Plate group in a pre-quarterfinal match. Meanwhile, the Plate group will see the top four parties qualified for the Plate semi-final.
The top-ranked party will play against the fourth-ranked party, with the second-placed team grappling with the third-placed team. The winner of these two semi-finals will contest in the group stage final. Finally, the winner of the plate group will play a pre-quarterfinal against one of the four teams that have finished second in their Elite group.
Ranji trophy 2022-23 squads:
Ajinkya Rahane usually leads Team Mumbai. The team contains national players like Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal and regular IPL players like Sarfaraz Khan, Hardik Tramore, etc. CAB has presented a stronger team that Manoj Tiwari will lead this upcoming season. Besides, the team has a fresh squad with Ishan Porel, Writtick Chatterjee, Anustup Majumder, Ankit Mishra, etc. Youth sensation Sanju Samson is leading his Kerala squad.
Last IPL season’s top bowler Avesh Khan is included in the latest Ranji champion Madhya Pradesh’s team list. Ishan Sharma has been enlisted in the Delhi cricket team to be played in Yash Dhull’s captaincy. Famous Wicket Keeper Riddhiman Saha is supposed to be enlisted in Tripura’s squad for the Ranji Trophy 2022-23. However, each team has prepared a power-packed squad this season, signing all the capable cricketers aside.
The entire Ranji Trophy tournament will be organized in all of the cricket stadiums and grounds in all the major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Gujrat, Panjab, Ahmedabad, Tripura, Assam, etc. The total grounds are 51, where all the matches are scheduled to be played.
After the banging performances in most matches, the new season of Ranji Trophy 2022-23 has taken place with a lot of positivity and a bold presence of all the teams. Here none is more, and none is less. However, cricket fans eagerly await some well-played matches to witness this season.
